What is Bio -CNG?
Bio CNG/CBG (Compressed Bio Gas) is a type of renewable natural gas that closely resembles traditional natural gas in both composition and properties. It serves as a direct substitute for natural gas and can be used in place of LPG for various applications.
Drivers for Bio-CNG
India is transitioning to a gas-based economy, focusing on BioCNG from organic waste. By 2030, the country aims to convert 15 million tonnes of biomass into BioCNG, cutting CNG import bills by 40%. The government plans to establish 5000 BioCNG plants by 2030, with oil marketing companies mandated to gradually increase CBG sales to 5% within 5 years, starting at 1% in FY 2025-26.
Enablers for Bio-CNG Projects
BioCNG projects benefit from priority lending by the RBI and financial aid from MNRE, with a subsidy of Rs. 4.0 Crore for 4.8 MT/Day (up to Rs. 10 Crore). Approved use of Fermented Organic Manure as fertilizer and Market Development Assistance of Rs. 1500/MT of FOM further support. Additionally, a capital subsid
